What is Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad?

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is a tourist excursion railway and private sector, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization in NE Ohio operating in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We operate train excursions year round (with seasonal changes in days and times). View a list of our excursion optionsroute and stations, and current schedule.

How much do tickets cost?

Our regular National Park Scenic coach ticket is $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 3-12). At the Rockside station and Akron Northside station only, premium seating options are available for an additional charge. Ticket prices of special eventsbeer/wine tastings, and dining programs vary.

How long is the trip?

Our National Park Scenic excursion is approximately three and a half hours long, round trip. With the coach ticket, you have the option of an all-day pass to deboard at a station and board again at a later time. We also offer a Family Fun Loop (one-and-a-half hour ride) that is preferable for families with young children. Special event excursions run approximately two hours. The duration of the scenic rides will change seasonally.

Is there parking at the stations?

Parking is free at all of our boarding stations. We recommend you arrive to the train station 30 minutes before the train departs to ensure time for parking, traffic and other unforeseen weather conditions.

What is Bike Aboard? How does Bike Aboard and Hike Aboard work?

Bike Aboard! or Hike Aboard! is a program that enables you to bike or hike the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in one direction and ride the train back in the other. We will load your bikes for you! The fee is $5 per person one way. You will pay a cash fare upon boarding (exact change is appreciated). You may refer to our train schedule and can board at any of the flagged stations (f) by arriving 10 minutes before a departure time and waving both hands over your head as the train arrives.

For the safety of our staff, bikes and trailers that exceed 40 pounds or that cannot be safely lifted by two employees, will not be permitted on board. Kayaks can be loaded at an additional fee (based on availability). Please refer to Bike Aboard! for more information on policies and procedures.

What if I miss the train?

If you have already purchased tickets and miss your departure, we can put you on standby for the next available departure. However, if the train is sold out, the tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If you miss the train for a special event or programming, tickets cannot be refunded or transferred (Refund protection isn’t valid within 3 days of the departure date). If you miss your train while at a layover, you are responsible for getting transportation back to your point of origin.

What forms of payment are accepted on the train and for purchasing tickets?

We accept cash and all major credit cards except for American Express. We cannot accept personal checks.

How do I find my seat once I am on the train?

The trainmen will direct you to your car, once on board refer to the seat number on your ticket. Trainmen will assist you in finding your seat and check tickets when the train starts moving.

Is the train wheelchair and walker accessible?

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has a handicap accessible car with a lift. Please note: availability may be limited. If you would like to request seating in our ADA cars, please call our customer service office at 1-800-468-4070 ext. 240 to book.

What are the ages for children and adults?

You must purchase tickets for children if they are between the ages of 3yrs – 12yrs. Children 2yrs and under do not need a ticket; however, they will not have a seat held for them and must sit on the parent or guardian’s lap.

*Any special excursion listed as 21 and over only is an adult-only event where alcohol is served. Due to our liquor licence, no persons under the age of 21 will be permitted to board these events (ie: Ales on Rails™ and Grape Escape). Children and infants are not permitted on these excursions.

Are pets allowed on the train?

No, pets are not permitted on the train.

Can I bring my service animal on the train?

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad does accommodate service animals on the train. While we do not discourage passengers with service animals from coming on the train, passengers must be aware that there are several factors to consider before deciding to ride with their service animal:

  1. The motion of the train, and the unnatural, high-pitched metallic sounds that the train makes as it goes over joints in the tracks may make some animals very uncomfortable.
  2. The train is narrow, and a walkway runs through it. Animals that are not accustomed to heavy and frequent foot traffic may be very uncomfortable. Service animals must not sit or lay down in a walkway as this presents a hazard to other guests and the animal. The service animal will not be permitted to sit on any of the seats but will be required to sit under the passenger’s seat or at his or her feet.
  3. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad staff have been directed not to touch the service animal, but other customers may not understand the role of a service animal and may want to touch the service animal.
  4. Any food or water which the animal requires, and appropriate containers for serving food and water to the animal, should be provided by the owner. Sanitary toilet arrangements must also be made by the owner of the animal, and, in the interest of the health and safety of our guests, the staff of the train will not handle or dispose of animal droppings or urine for the owner.

Am I free to bring my own food or beverage on the train?

No, unfortunately outside food and beverages are not permitted on the train, unless due to dietary restrictions.

Is there food on the train?

The concession car aboard the train is stocked with freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more! We also carry a variety of beverages. CVSR uses locally owned and operated businesses to provide a fresh selection for you to enjoy! We accept cash and all major credit cards except for American Express. We cannot accept personal checks.

Are there restrooms available on the train?

There are restrooms located throughout the train cars and at our main boarding stations.

Where is your office located? What are the hours?

We have a customer service office located at 2325 Stine Rd. Peninsula, OH. This office is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. We do not have staff located at the various stations unless the train is running. Our three main boarding stations are only staffed one hour prior to departure times. See boarding station hours.

Please Note

  • Use of tobacco on or around the trains and train stations or depots is prohibited. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to: cigarettes, cigars, smoking tobacco or any article/product that is made up of tobacco or a tobacco substitute that is not a cigarette (including electronic cigarettes and vaping devices).
  • No firearms are permitted on the train.
  • There is no outside alcohol allowed on the train.
