THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride Dates and Departures

The decision to cancel THE POLAR EXPRESS™ is a tough one, but due to the current situation and making sure we are doing everything possible for the health and safety of our community, we have decided not to move forward with THE POLAR EXPRESS™ beginning Thursday, November 19.

Inspired by the hit movie, this holiday favorite comes to life  as you and your family take a magical trip on THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride!

Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, families are sure to enjoy their trip to the North Pole. Passengers are entertained by a reading of The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg and upon arrival at the North Pole, elves are eagerly waving to families as they prepare for the big day. On the way back home Santa greets guests and takes photos.

Experience the joy of caroling and holiday entertainment that will surely become an annual holiday tradition. Families are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the ride and join in on the magic of Christmas!

Seating Options and Ticket Prices

Coach

$47 per person Monday through Thursday*

$49 per person Friday through Sunday*

Seats can only be purchased in sections of four, with two seats facing two seats. Windows are on each side of the train. We cannot guarantee which side of the train your seat will be on; however, each CHILD will have the opportunity to view the North Pole. Your ticket includes a ninety minute train ride, hot chocolate packet, one (1) cookie, silver bell, program and a brief visit with Santa. Passengers ages 1 and below are not required to purchase a ticket but must get a free lap child ticket during purchase. Lap children must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap throughout the duration of the train ride.

Each passenger with Deluxe tickets will receive a commemorative THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Mug. Passengers ages 1 and below are not required to purchase a ticket but must get a free lap child ticket during purchase. Lap children must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap throughout the duration of the train ride.

To ensure the health and safety of our guests the St. Lucie lounge car is only available if you purchase all 18 seats. Comfortably padded seats line the sides of a spacious lounge. Your ticket includes a ninety minute train ride, hot chocolate packet, one (1) cookie, silver bell, program and a brief visit with Santa. Each passenger with Executive tickets will receive a commemorative THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Mug. Passengers ages 1 and below are not required to purchase a ticket but must get a free lap child ticket during purchase. Lap children must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap throughout the duration of the train ride.

Each passenger with First Class tickets will receive a commemorative THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Mug. Passengers ages 1 and below are not required to purchase a ticket but must get a free lap child ticket during purchase. Lap children must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap throughout the duration of the train ride. NOTE: The Silver Solarium (24 seats) can be purchased as a private car. Volunteers are needed to create a festive atmosphere through personal interaction, song and techniques to engage visitors as we transport more than 40,000 passengers to the enchantment that is the North Pole! FAQ’s

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Volunteers are needed to create a festive atmosphere through personal interaction, song and techniques to engage visitors on board. Groups and Individuals are also invited to volunteer at the North Pole. Refer to our volunteer page for more information.

Can I bring a snack or other food and beverages on board the train?

There will NOT be a Café car. Therefore, concessions and souvenirs will not be sold. You may bring factory-sealed, prepackaged snacks and drinks. We ask that you consume all food in the first half of the program and prior to our arrival at the North Pole. We will ask that guests put away any remaining food at this time and their masks are to be worn for the duration of the trip. Personal water bottles are allowed on the train. Alcoholic beverages and fast food will not be permitted on the train. 

Are there restrooms on the train?

There are restrooms on board the train and at each boarding platform.

Are the trains heated?

Yes. All of the train cars are temperature controlled.

If I purchase tickets, and I am unable to take the train for any reason, are my tickets refundable?

Customers requesting a refund or voucher due to COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test result for COVID-19 must do so at least 48 hours before departure date by calling CVSR at (330) 439-5708 ext 240. Customers who contact us after 48 hours will be offered a voucher toward a future ride. Delayed and “no show” customers who do not call are not entitled to voucher or refund.

Anyone arriving on the day of their departure who has a confirmed temperature over 100.4°F or is displaying any symptom of COVID-19 (including fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough or difficulty breathing) or who has been in contact with anyone who is under observation or self-quarantining will not be permitted to board the train. Reimbursement options including a voucher or refund will be offered at that time.

The departure I wanted is sold out. Can I be added to a Courtesy List if tickets become available in the future?

In the case that your desired date, location, or car is sold out we will add your name to a courtesy list. Please email with the subject POLAR COURTESY LIST and include the following information:

When someone enacts their Refund Protection to remove tickets, we will notify all applicable parties by email only. Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee seats will still be available when you attempt to purchase them.

Should my family and I dress in pajamas?

Yes! Children and adults are all encouraged to come dressed in pajamas to ride THE POLAR EXPRESS™

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure to allow enough time for traffic, parking, temperature checks, COVID-19 screening questions, ticket check-in, and boarding. Please plan your travel time accordingly.

Do I have to check-in when I arrive?

Each passenger in your party must be checked in upon arrival. Please have your tickets in-hand upon arrival. All members of your party must be present. Passengers will not be permitted to board without checking in.

Where do we park?

There are large parking lots at each station. Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure to allow enough time for traffic, parking, ticket check-in, and boarding. Please plan your travel time accordingly.

Do we get off the train?

No. Passengers stay on board for the full round trip. Santa will board in the North Pole and greet passengers in each car.

What restaurants are nearby?

Near Akron Northside Station:

Dante Boccuzzi: Within walking distance of the station (Does require climbing stairs if walking from the station)
Luigi’s: Within walking distance to the station (Does require climbing stairs if walking from the station)

Near Rockside Station:
Lockkeeper’s Tavern: An upscale dining experience that enchants guests with fresh, flavorful Italian cuisine. Within walking distance of Rockside Station.
Yours Truly: Offers a casual, family friendly dining for over three decades. Menus for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Within walking distance of Rockside station.

How do I purchase tickets?

All tickets are sold online until November 1. Due to the high volume of calls, our ticket office and call center are unable to place phone or walk-up orders for THE POLAR EXPRESS™. If you do not have access to a computer, we suggest visiting your local library or asking a friend.

What are my ticket delivery options?

Print at home: $0.25 fee per order is added to the total cost of your order. Please print your tickets upon receiving the email confirmation.

Will call: $1 fee per order is added to the total cost of your order. Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure and pick up your tickets from inside the ticket booth. You will be asked to present a valid ID before receiving your tickets.

Please be aware that we are unable to print tickets on site.

Where do I pick up my tickets if I chose to receive them via Will Call?

Will Call is located on-site at the box office outside the ticket booth. The box office opens 2 hours prior to departure. Please plan to arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure to pick up your tickets.

Can you mail my tickets to me?

Tickets are available for print-at-home or will call only. We do not offer a mail delivery option.

Does my infant need a ticket?

Yes. Passengers ages two and below are not required to purchase a ticket but must get a free lap child ticket during purchase. Lap children must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap throughout the duration of the train ride.

Do you have group rates?

We do not offer group rates for THE POLAR EXPRESS™. All tickets are priced per person.

Which side of the train car is the North Pole on?

We cannot guarantee which side of the train car will be facing the North Pole. We do allow each child to move to the side facing the North Pole to view it as the train passes.

Is the train wheelchair/walker accessible?

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has a handicap accessible car with a lift.  Please call our Customer Service office at 1-800-468-4070 ext. 240 to purchase your tickets. Tickets are based on availability.
