AKRON, Ohio – Despite record-high temperatures and abundant Halloween decorations around town this week, Christmas is right around the corner, and the elves of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad are decking the halls for its annual holiday train ride.
Tickets went on sale Wednesday morning for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s popular Polar Express Train Ride, which runs Nov. 8 to Dec. 21, with the exceptions of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 and Thanksgiving on Nov. 28.
Coach tickets start at $46 for Mondays through Thursdays, and $48 for Fridays through Sundays. Children ages one and under do not need a ticket, but must be seated on an adult’s lap throughout the ride. Deluxe, executive, premium, first class and upper dome tickets are also available.
The train will depart from Akron’s Northside Station at 7 p.m. and return at 8:45 p.m. It will also depart from the Rockside Station in Independence at 7:15 p.m. and return at 9 p.m.
Inspired by the movie, the train takes a trip to the “North Pole” in Peninsula. On board, families – often clad in pajamas – will enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and a reading of “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg.
On the return journey, Santa will greet each rider, and every child will receive a sleigh bell.
