Where to capture the CVSR train this fall
We are back on the tracks October 1 with our Fall Flyer rides. It’s the perfect time with fall officially here, and the leaves in the Cuyahoga Valley slowing changing.
We recently spoke with the photographer Robert George who is an avid photographer of our train. If you see a beauty shot of our train on our social media, there is a good chance he is the person behind the photo. He shared some of his favorite and less well-known spots to capture the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad train this fall.
Riverview Road at Bath Road
As one of the main entrances to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, there is plenty to capture of the hustle and bustle of the park as riders, hikers, and trains make their way through the area.
Tip: If you time it right, you can capture hikers and bikers on the path as well the train. .
The Big Bend Area of Summit Metro Parks
The Towpath Trail runs along the railway in the Big Bend area, which is shaded with many trees offering plenty of fall colors.
Tip: George suggests finding the curve in the railway coming from the Merriman Valley area to set-up your photo for the perfect composition.
Riverview Road at the Valley Picnic Area and Columbia Run Picnic Area
This area is perfect for a shot of the train. With plenty of places to park, you can easily find a spot to camp out and wait as the train makes its way down Riverview Road.
Tip: Watch out for traffic and time your shot so that you will not capture a car driving by.
Riverview at Coonrad Ranger Station located at 10340 Riverview Road in Brecksville
This location offers plenty of fall foliage with its open area and trees surrounding the train tracks. The trees behind the rail tracks make the perfect backdrop to any photo as the train passes.
Tip: Park near the entrance or in the parking lot of the station.
No matter where you are in the park, always remember your rail safety tips when photographing the train, and never walk on or around the tracks, even for that perfect photo opportunity.
If you capture a photo of the CVSR train, don’t forget to tag us and hashtag your photo with #RideCVSR for a chance to be featured on our social media channels.
