CVSR Partners with Cleveland Clinic on Summer Program

Cuyahoga Valley Railroad is happy to partner with Cleveland Clinic on a new summer program called “Passport to Health.” Cleveland Clinic launched the Stokes Scholar Internship program for 100 high school freshman living in East Cleveland this summer, providing students the opportunity to learn about non-clinical careers in law, information technology, marketing, human resources and building operations.

The program focuses on building a skilled workforce and bridging readiness gaps that currently exist. Deb Gordon, a trustee of CVSR and Sr. Director of Operations, Government & Community Relations for the Cleveland Clinic, has brought an amazing group of young men and women to CVSR and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Over the next three weeks, Stokes interns will participate in a new immersive program called “Passport to Health.” They will have the opportunity to learn about the history, operations and maintenance of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, explore Cuyahoga Valley National Park, hike and bike trails, and visit Countryside Conservancy farms. At the culmination of the program, Stokes interns will have an opportunity to evaluate the program and reflect on what they have learned. The program runs July 20, 22, 27, 29 and August 3.

Thank you to the Cleveland Clinic, Deb Gordon, Craig Tallman, Kim Gillan-Shafron and our partners for making this program a possibility.
