Sample Itinerary: Maple Sugar Express

Hale Farm and Village’s Maple Sugar Festival is back in March for two weekends only! The festival showcases the process of tree taping and how maple sugar is processed into yummy syrup that guests get to enjoy with a hearty pancake breakfast.

Festival-goers also get to view oxen demonstrations and experience arts and crafts such as glass blowing, blacksmithing, pottery, and spinning/weaving. The Maple Sugar Festival is March 9, 10, 16 and 17.

Make the trip one to remember by taking the train to Hale Farm & Village! Taking the train to the festival will enhance you’re visit and throw you back in time to a simpler era.

A train ticket includes train ride to Hale Farm & Village, admittance to the Maple Sugar Festival, pancake breakfast, tree tapping demonstration and other demonstrations.

Passengers can choose to depart from Rockside Station or Akron Northside Station to attend the Maple Sugar Festival. The departure time and length of visit at the festival varies depending on the station. Read below to get an idea of the timeframe so you can plan your day accordingly!

Departing From Rockside Station

9 a.m. The train departs Rockside Station for Hale Farm

9:50 a.m. The train arrives in Indigo Lake. A tram takes passengers to Hale Farm

10 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. Time at the Maple Sugar Festival

12:25 p.m. Take the tram back to the Indigo Lake train depot (passengers are responsible for making it on time to the tram. The train will not wait for those who miss the tram and there will be no returning train)

12:50 p.m.  The train departs Indigo Lake

2:40 p.m. Return to Rockside Station and deboard the train

Total time on train: 2 hours and 40 minutes
Total time at the Maple Sugar Festival: 2 hours and 25 minutes

Departing From Akron Northside Station

10:30 a.m. The train departs Akron Northside Station for Hale Farm

10:55 a.m. The train arrives in Indigo Lake. A tram takes passengers to Hale Farm

11:05 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. Time at the Maple Sugar Festival

12:25 p.m. Take the tram back to the Indigo Lake train depot (passengers are responsible for making it on time to the tram. The train will not wait for those who miss the tram and there will be no returning train)

12:50 p.m.  The train departs Indigo Lake

1:10 p.m. Return to Akron Northside Station and deboard the train.

Total time on train: 50 minutes
Total time at the Maple Sugar Festival: 1 hour and 20 minutes

Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for children (ages 3-12). Children under three ride free; they will receive admittance to the Maple Sugar Festival, however, they will NOT receive a pancake breakfast. If you would like for your child to have a pancake breakfast a child’s ticket must be purchased.
