Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Announces Retirement of President/CEO

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Announces Retirement of President/CEO

Peninsula, Ohio - May 30, 2024 – After seven years of dedicated service, Joe Mazur, President, and CEO of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR), has announced his retirement, effective September 30, 2024. Mazur's departure marks the end of an era characterized by growth, resilience, and innovation for the organization.

Mazur assumed leadership of CVSR in March of 2017, bringing with him a wealth of experience garnered from his lengthy career in arena management and with the International Soap Box Derby. Throughout his time at CVSR, Mazur has navigated the organization through a series of challenges, including the unprecedented global pandemic and three years of track erosion issues that suspended, then modified train operations.

Under Mazur's guidance, CVSR has achieved remarkable growth and success, solidifying its position as one of the premier scenic railroads in America. Mazur spearheaded the introduction of several new and exciting experiences for visitors, including the popular Dinner and Events Train, The North Pole Adventure, and Family Fun Loop activities, which have delighted passengers of all ages.

One of Mazur's most significant accomplishments during his tenure at CVSR was the successful execution of the organization's $4 million capital campaign which brought the California Zephyr Vista Domes along with many passenger car upgrades. His leadership and dedication were instrumental in driving fundraising initiatives, ensuring the continued success and sustainability of CVSR for years to come.

Reflecting on his time at CVSR, Mazur expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and impactful organization. "It has been an honor to serve as President and CEO of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad," said Mazur. "I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am confident that CVSR will continue to thrive in the years ahead."

The Board of Trustees of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will begin a search for Mazur's successor, with plans to appoint new leadership in the coming months. In the meantime, Mazur will work closely with the Board and the executive team to ensure a smooth transition. “On behalf of the Board, I would like to congratulate and thank Joe for his unwavering commitment to CVSR. Under his leadership, the organization went through a period of innovation, growth and transformation. We are extremely grateful for Joe’s many contributions and wish him well,” said James Virost, CVSR Board Chairman.

Everyone at Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, extends a heartfelt appreciation to Mazur for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to the organization. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
