Celebrating America 250 through tracking our history!

America Is Turning 250 and CVSR Has Been Part of the Journey for 155 Years
For more than a century and a half, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has connected communities, carried stories across generations, and witnessed moments that helped shape both Northeast Ohio and the nation. As America approaches its 250th anniversary, CVSR is proud to celebrate the people, places, and experiences that continue to define our shared history.

From the earliest days of rail travel through the rise of industry, wartime movement, tourism, preservation, and modern-day adventure, the railroad has remained a lasting thread woven through the story of America. The America 250 campaign invites riders, families, volunteers, historians, and community members to explore how railroads helped move not only passengers and freight, but also ideas, innovation, culture, and connection.
This campaign is more than a look back at history. It is an invitation to experience it. Through storytelling, archival photography, interviews, community memories, and interactive digital experiences, CVSR will share the stories of the workers, riders, founders, volunteers, and neighbors who helped shape the railroad across generations.
Because when you ride today, you become part of the next chapter.
Ride Through History
Railroads transformed the American landscape. They connected towns to cities, opened opportunities for commerce and travel, and helped communities grow alongside the tracks. Here in the Cuyahoga Valley, the railroad became part of everyday life — carrying workers, families, visitors, goods, and stories through generations of change.
As part of the America 250 celebration, CVSR is highlighting the moments where local history intersects with national history. From the railroad’s earliest departures in the 1800s to the preservation efforts that continue today, these stories remind us that history is not distant — it lives in the places we still experience together.
Throughout the campaign, visitors will discover historical milestones, behind-the-scenes stories, personal perspectives, and reflections on how rail transportation helped shape life in Ohio and across the country.

Part of the America 250-Ohio Transportation Trail
America 250-Ohio has recognized CVSR as part of the Ohio Transportation Trail — a statewide experiential trail celebrating the people, places, and innovations that moved Ohio and the nation forward.
The Ohio Transportation Trail includes more than 80 destinations across the state that showcase the history of air, rail, road, and water transportation. As one of Ohio’s featured rail destinations, CVSR helps tell the story of how railroads transformed travel, commerce, industry, and community life throughout the region.
For generations, railroads connected Ohio to the rest of the country, carrying passengers, freight, ideas, and opportunity across expanding networks of steel rails. Today, CVSR continues that legacy by preserving railroad history while creating new experiences for modern riders exploring the Cuyahoga Valley.
Being included on the Transportation Trail places CVSR within a larger statewide story about innovation, connection, and movement — reminding visitors that Ohio has long been at the center of how America travels.
Visitors exploring the Transportation Trail are encouraged to discover additional historic transportation destinations throughout Ohio and experience how the state helped shape the nation’s journey over the last 250 years.
