Your Safety is Our First Priority

We are committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for every guest from the moment you arrive until the end of your journey. Our safety guidelines are in place to protect you, your family, and our crew while preserving the unique experience of riding a historic passenger train. We kindly ask all guests to follow these simple but important safety practices throughout their visit.

On-Board Train Safety

For your safety, please never attempt to board or exit a moving train. Always watch your step when boarding and deboarding, and use the handrails for added stability. As the train is in motion, we recommend using seat backs to steady yourself while walking through the cars and taking extra care when passing through vestibules, as these areas can occasionally be slippery. Assisting children while boarding, deboarding, and moving through the train is strongly encouraged to ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone on board.

Safety at the Station

We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure at the Peninsula Depot, Akron Northside Station, or Rockside Station to allow ample time for parking, boarding, and safe navigation of the station areas. Please watch your step on stairs, platforms, and walkways, and remain behind all yellow safety lines so you stay a safe distance from the train and tracks. For your protection, never go under a train for any reason and do not approach trains, whether moving or stationary, as trains can move at any time. When taking photos, please remain at least 25 feet away from the train, as depth perception can be misleading when viewing through a camera or phone. Additionally, placing coins or objects on the tracks is both unsafe and illegal and is strictly prohibited.

Additional Safety & Accessibility Information

Oxygen is permitted on board; however, storage space is not available for oxygen tanks, and all equipment must remain at your seat. While a limited number of outlets may be available in select cars, power access cannot be guaranteed for the duration of the trip, so guests should plan accordingly and bring enough oxygen to last the full length of their visit.

Due to the natural movement of the train and thresholds between passenger cars, we strongly recommend wearing secure, rubber-soled shoes or tennis shoes. For your safety, open-toed sandals, high heels, and flip flops are not advised. Explorer Program participants must wear closed-toe and closed-heel footwear while on board.

We also offer an ADA-accessible railcar equipped with a hydraulic lift for wheelchair boarding and deboarding, along with a wheelchair-accessible restroom to ensure a comfortable experience for all guests. For safety reasons, open flames of any kind, including candles for birthdays or celebrations, are not permitted on board the train.

If you notice unsafe conditions while at a station or aboard a CVSR train, contact the CVSR dispatcher at 330-388-6662.
